THE IPC DOUBLE TAKE FEATURING MARKED MOVIES: IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS (1994)

April 24, 2013 by theipc

A while back I decided to do a compilation of ALL of John Carpenter’s movies HERE, so I ordered them all up on Netflix and moved their position around here and there as I found something new I wanted to watch. Months passed and this showed up on my door and I gave it a watch. Over on Mark’s site we were talking about something or other and I begged him for the 500th time he suggested we collaborate again […]

THE IPC DOUBLE TAKE ~ FEATURING MARKED MOVIES: ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981)

October 1, 2012 by theipc

I don’t exactly remember the events surrounding MARKED MOVIES and I planning on doing this, but I imagine it had something to do with my awe of his writing skills (especially his fucking awesome SIT DOWN SERIES) – but I asked him if he would be interested and I told him I’d buy him some shots if I ever run into him in person and we agreed on “Escape” which we both haven’t seen in a long time and here […]

THE FOG (1980) FOUR TOP HATS

September 3, 2012 by theipc

So how long has it ben since you’ve seen this bad boy? I’m betting on quite a while.  I’m not sure when this will get published but, earlier today, I started doing a write up of {NOT POSTED YET CAN’T SPOIL} for a special piece that will hopefully have published before now but, in it, I mentioned that it sure is different seeing something that you loved as kid 30 years later and look at with new / old eyes […]

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (1986) FIVE TOP HATS

July 9, 2012 by theipc

What can I say? This is only one of my favorite movies – EVER! I probably saw this sucker in the theater a dozen times when I was a kid and I’ve certainly seen it another twenty or so in the last 26 years of my existence. If I am ever lying around with nothing to do and this is on – check! Do I ever watch this even when there is something else to do – check! I don’t […]

FATHER’S DAY 2012!!

June 17, 2012 by theipc

If you haven’t noticed, or are new to the joint here, we try and celebrate holidays the best way we can, by looking at movies and somehow associating them to the holiday at hand. For this one, I thought we could get our Father’s Day on, IPC style, with a look into those crazy antics of Satan and his daddy in: PRINCE OF DARKNESS (1987) FIVE TOP HATS The Good and Canonical Horror Reader might refer to me as a heretic […]

ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 (1976) FOUR TOP HATS

May 24, 2012 by theipc

I got nostalgic the other day when I was watching Alien and I beered up some older movies  that I loved from when I was a kid so I’ll be writing about some of my old faves (maybe) frequently here. When I moved “Assault” up to position one I beeredly thought – “hey why don’t I do a tribute page to John Carpenter??? I can do it!” and then queued up a bunch of his older movies. So, I am going to […]

THE THING (2011) THREE TOP HATS

February 2, 2012 by theipc

(2011) There seems to be a lot of hate for this movie out on the IMDB “butchering Carpenter’s visionary classic” and I am really not sure why. Considering the sets were built to exactly match those of the 1982 Kurt Russel “Thing” and, if you’ve seen that Thing, then you would realize that this Thing is, basically, the exact same Thing, just with Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the lead. For real, if you take out the “spaceship” Thing and the […]

THE WARD (2010) THREE TOP HATS

September 5, 2011 by theipc

I think this is officially called “John Carpenter’s The Ward”. “JC” has provided a LOT of entertainment in my life – a LOT – so I am not going to slander his good name,  but this guy hasn’t made a movie the really did anything for me since “In the Mouth of Madness” back in, like, 1994, and I think that was a remake. This movie is really not that great – and probably deserves a lower rating, but since […]

POPULATION SAMPLE 2: THE HALLOWEEN MOVIES:

August 22, 2011 by theipc

I loved all of these movies growing up, so this is going to be especially fun re-watching these. Michael Myers (also known as The Shape) used to give me nightmares. I loved how he was always skulking around in the background, his white mask slowly coming into the picture, chiaroscuro style. I also liked these the most because they didn’t try to be comical, they were always dark and atmospheric, no one- liners that ruined scenes. I remember there were […]
