THE HIDDEN FACE (2011) FOUR TOP HATS

HIDDEN1

In all honesty, I’ve seen this thing floating around the download / rental areas for a while now and I’d kept putting it off because of the poster above. I know, I know I shouldn’t be like that but I am and I suck and oh well.  One of my friends Gary @ WITH A FRIEND LIKE GARY has been mentioning this here and there and eventually he called me out to go watch it and I did and let me tell you – it was fucking fantastic! On his review I linked to there, he warns you not to watch the trailer – which I didn’t and haven’t – because it gives away what’s going on, so I’ll believe him and offer the same advice – don’t watch the trailer and go into this blind. I got this on Netflix DVD but I think it’s also out there streaming and, for reals, this was VERY GOOD.

It also has a couple of smoking hot actresses in it – if that’s your thing. I don’t want to go about spoiling anything in this, so it’s probably going to be difficult to write much, but this was well worth the time. In fact, I just removed a couple of pics from this post because I don’t want to give anything away.

This is not an action movie or a comedy or anything of the sort; nor is it bloody or gory or features serial killers. It’s a serious movie that takes its time and fucking delivers. You might even think it’s going a little slow for the first 30 minutes but then something happens and – well – I loved the big twist. Since I can’t really talk about much without giving it away and ruining the surprise, I guess I’ll shut up and here’s a couple of shots of the two lead actresses. I thought they were both stunning and really believed in the both of them. If you’ve ever been on the fence about this – give it a shot – it’s totally worth it. Like, TOTES.

  1. I agree both actresses are hot but only one of them showed some good acting(the one in the second pic). It is a good little film that you can watch but it isn’t great. The twist and women are the highlights of the film. Not the greatest but I would recommend it.

      Hey Issy –

I know you didn’t like it as much as Gary and I did. I LIKED it : ) That actress in the second pic acted her ass off : )

I think it WAS great! I loved everything about it; the mood, atmosphere, mystery, uncertainty, unpredictability – and that was before the twist. 🙂

Eric, glad you liked it. I wish there were more films like this out there.

If you look on my blog I recently reblogged an entry for a film called “Head-On”. It’s not a thriller/mystery like this one; it’s more of a romantic drama, but I think it’s executed very well, and that you’d like it. One of the posters commented that it’s in his top 10 faves of the 2000’s. I found myself becoming deeply engrossed in the story and the characters and it proving to feel like an experience more than mere movie-watching. I highly recommend! 🙂

If you know of any other good mystery/thrillers like Hidden Face, May, and Amber Lake, etc. drop me a note on one of my blog pages and let me know.

  3. This looks like another weird-ass movie I’ve never heard of. 😉 Sounds interesting, though. For an excellent Spanish-language suspense thriller thingy, can I recommend The Secret In Their Eyes to anyone & everyone?! Seriously….! It’s awesome.

Table, I’m pretty sure I bought that DVD a couple years ago, but didn’t get around to watching it yet (as is the case with many DVDs I bought). I will have to pop it on soon. You need to watch Hidden Face soon and let Eric and I know what you think – and I will get back with you and let you know what I thought about Secret In Their Eyes. 🙂
