VOLUNTEERS?? ANYONE??? I’M LOOKING TO DO A FILM FESTIVAL…

shitfest-2013 banner

HELLO!!

The other day I posted about something and mentioned that I just bought a 16 pack of movies for five bucks that look REALLY SHITTY! Well – I watched one of them and – YES – it was PURE SHIT!! I thought about doing a feature out here called something like “DON’T LOOK IN THE BOX!!” or something and couldn’t come up with a good name so I thought I would “run” a “film festival” called SHITFEST 2013 showcasing these abominations. Then I got to thinking that – what if I could get someone else to contribute and we could have some sort of fun??

In my head, I am thinking of running SHITFEST 2013 throughout the month of May, showcasing things that really suck it. Would anyone be interested in contributing?? I would only love it! You could send me anything you want about a shitty movie – long review, short review, pictures only, a terrible movie poster, your drunken picture making out with Gary Busey, whatever.

Would anyone be interested, or is this a stupid idea?

I don’t get a lot of action out here on the weekends, so I usually don’t publish anything, so if I think about those days where people are being unproductive at work (weekdays) that’s 23 days of SHITFEST 2013. I can probably cover 16 of those, leaving at least 7 totally open slots – which I would rather publish 23 things from someone else – YOU.

Any takers? Any volunteers?? Any encouragement??

Any year, any genre. Although, if there was such a thing as a “big” response to this, I would probably choose shitty horror. And 70s porn.

Let me know ~ if you want to send me an email send it over to ei@theipc.me

: )

      That’s a great question, Gary!

Let me go work that into my post!

By the way – I am watching a movie that I think you’ll like. It’s called “Separation” released 2013. I’m only about halfway though but – so far so good…

Well – I was kinda hoping that You, The Reader would send your thoughts on something to me and then I’ll publish it out here under the SHITFEST 2013 banner promoting your work : )

Aw man, I don’t remember enough about it to write; i did my best to block it out…you know what, I wrote a post about it on IMDB in 2008. lol. I will paste that and send. How are you watching Separation b/c I can’t find it, and I want to give it a watch.

Okay, I just e-mailed you a quick review of “Broken”. It’s something I wrote back in 2008 after I first watched it and posted on the IMDB board. lol.

Okay, I just found it on there. Do you have Netflix instant? If so, check if it’s on netflix instant and I will subscribe to it; if not I will do i-tunes. Thnx!

Did you get home yet? If so, I need you to check Netflix Instant for that movie – and if it’s on there I will subscribe; if not I will have to rent it from i-tunes. LMK. 🙂

I recommend this horror movie from 2006 called “Broken”. Quite possibly the most annoying lead “actress” I have ever seen! I would go into more detail, but I’d prefer to let the past stay in the past and not dig up any of my repressed memories from this craptastic masterpiece. Should you choose to elect this film into the 2013 Shitfest festival, just crown this film “Shittiest of the shittiest” now. 🙂

  2. I’ll take a dip into the pond, so to speak. As long as it’s any genre, any year, I have loads of opinions on movies that i think are shitty lol. When would you need the articles in by?

GREATNESS!!! Sometimes, when I do interviews (and such) with other people, it can take me some time to get everything formatted just right for my blog’s theme. Since I want to start this May 1 – maybe sometime around then? Then this will go for a month so…? Whenever but hopefully by the middle of May??

  3. You know I’ll always support you and join anything you set up, basically because you would do for me. Although you know the speed I work at and how many projects I do at once, so maybe schedule me for the end of May 😉

Just let me know what you want, I have plenty of shitty movies to write about. Rec 3 anybody?

Maybe we should tread some new water! Look forward to it! Hopefully you can come up with something over the next 40 days : )

  4. You seem to have a fair few folks keen. But if you end up struggling, I would be keen as to help out. I have some of those garbage boxsets, so I am sure I could find something that is utter arse in there.

Honestly, if my dreams came true I would post the first one and the last one and showcase everyone else’s work in between!! I don’t think that’s gonna happen yet but maybe next year! Submission(s) very welcome!!

  5. After I emailed you last night I watched an 80s movie called Blood Beat that made me want to call 911 and tell them that someone attempted to murder the horror genre. Bad movie. Bad! So I’ll be writing about that piece o’ crap. And I’m really looking forward to reading everyone else’s entries so I can find new bad stuff to waste my Friday nights on!

Here’s an idea – spend your friday nights watching GOOD stuff that you haven’t seen yet; you can start with “The Hidden Face” and quit trying to guess what it is and just go watch for yourself; but don’t watch the trailer b/c the trailer does give the twist away; if you know the twist going in it’s not nearly as effective. 🙂

Here’s an idea: loosen up; don’t be so quick to take offense; realize people have different personalities than your own; learn the difference between when someone is being folksy and when some is being rude. My comment was light-hearted.

      • After seeing some of your other comments Gary (and I do look around at other blogs, including THIS FINE BLOG HERE *cheap pop*) I think you got “different personality” and “being a flaming douchebag” confused. I strongly advise you leave Wednesday’s Child alone. I’ll watch a terrible movie for you.

Dan, what are you talking about? Don’t mistake passion and fervor about films for douchebaggery. I’m very opinionated, but I’m not disrespectful to others. I was playfully giving Wednesday a demand as I thought she would understand since we’ve interacted on her blogs before. Notice the 🙂 at the end of my paragraph; yes I gave her a real recommendation, but barking the order was a joke. Obviously it was misinterpreted, and now somehow I am a “flaming douchebag”? And you’re going to now not-so playfully demand I “leave Wednesday alone” as if I am somehow already not leaving her alone? lol. After she left her message I shot over a reply and then unfollowed both her blogs and have not bothered her; so not sure why you’re implying I am somehow not leaving her alone.

If you were to re-read my initial reply to her and imagine a more playful tone from me then you may realize it wasn’t half as bad as you thought as you read it with a more serious interpretation. It’s hard to interpret words online at times. So, don’t be so quick to make such a rash judgment about one’s character you haven’t even met. I have very strong character. Never been drunk; never done a drug; never even puffed a cigarette. I go out of my way to help others whenever I can. Not boasting or claiming to be great, etc. but merely trying to convey I’m far from a “douchebag” type person. I just have a very playful personality which is why Eric’s blog is one of my favorites b/c I can always joke around with him on here – and when he gives me a recommendation I don’t like I can rag him, and he knows I’m just playing, etc. If you hate my movie recommendations that’s fine. Tell me not to follow you, or comment to you anymore, that’s fine, too. You can tell me you hate my guts, and I’ll shrug and say “okay”. But tell me I am a “douchebag” when you don’t even know me is grossly inaccurate – especially when you stated it was based off a misinterpretation.

Eric, sorry for the long reply on here; just wanted to try to clarify my intentions. I know you get a ton of traffic on here and didn’t want other bloggers to get an inaccurate, misinterpreted impression of me. Otherwise I would’ve let it be. I’m about to grab something to eat and then rent “Separation” from i-tunes. I’m actually looking forward to it; it better be good!! 🙂

Man, I don’t know. I was bored pretty much all the way until the 3rd act and by that time I didn’t really care anymore. It didn’t really have any interesting characters. But the ending did have a twist that makes you reevaluate everything you’ve seen. So, I’m not really sure what to think. You know I like mystery/thrillers with those kinds of twists, so I credit it for that, but it needed to be more intriguing before arriving at the finale. Part of me thinks it’s terrible – and part of me thinks it’s clever. So, I am not sure what to think at the moment. You know I like to watch just about anything that dares to be different, but it also needs to be well written, directed and acted, and this one fell short in a lot of those areas. I may have to watch it over again at some point and see how I feel after reevaluating it. As of now I’d probably give it around a 6 out of 10.

I liked the ending, as well. It just wasn’t quite enough to save the entire movie.

SPOILER BELOW to anyone may be interested in watching you should stop reading now…

I thought as soon as the protagonist’s mother appeared that it came across very fake and I could tell it was her imagination and I felt as if the filmmakers tried to pass her off as being real. At least in the beginning. I also thought the dialogue between the protagonist and the kid at the beginning was also bad dialogue and acting. And then the real-estate guy was also a poor actor. I think the concept was strong, but with a bunch of mediocre actors it took away from the experience. I don’t see how some of them are working actors. I would have held off for stronger actors. I mean Jessica Chastain only made $100 a day for “Take Shelter” so you can’t tell me you can’t get quality actors for cheap. Terrence Howard also was paid peanuts for his Oscar-nominated performance in “Hustle & Flow” and so again, $ cannot be an excuse. If you have to delay production in order to cast strong actors then so be it. I think “Separation” could have been much more effective with a couple edits of the script and quality actors.

With that in mind, the ending did save it for me and bumped it up a few stars. If not for the ending, I think this one would have gotten a 3-4 out of 10.

  6. It’s not a shitty idea at all, it’s a shit-tastic idea! I’m looking forward to reading all kinds of posts! Particularly anything involving drunken Gary Busey makeouts. Did you mean a picture of someone making out with the actual Busey himself, or someone drunken making out with a Gary Busey poster? I’m intrigued and I can’t wait to find out!
