Hi everyone – I realized the other day that it takes me about two weeks between watching a movie and publishing something about it. Most of the things I watch are shit so there’s no hurry but sometimes I see some things that I REALLY like – and this is one of them. If you’re looking for something to rent this weekend – pull the trigger on this one. I LOVED IT. I’ll try and get something Proper out soon.
This movie is directed by Ti West so you already know it’s going to be a slow burner and this is – to be sure. But unlike HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and THE INNKEEPERS which I loved but didn’t have a huge payoff at the end, for a movie like this to end like you figure it will, you’re going to have to grab yourself by the balls and put something out that makes a difference and this one FUCKING DELIVERS. The last 25 minutes or so of this are really fucking amazing. This is not the Ti West you’re use to. FUCKING BRAVO, guys!
I follow the director and AJ Bowen on Twitter so I’ve been reading them talk about this and waiting for this movie for a long time and I wasn’t disappointed. Excellent stuff!!
P.S. To the filmmakers who will never read this. If you’re going to periodically put time-stamps up on the footage, that doesn’t ever bother me, but if you’re going to frame a pivotal shot with a clock on the wall in the center you have to be sure to make sure the clock hands match the time-stamp. You did!!! VERY WELL DONE!!!! This attention to minutiae is really fucking appreciated!!
My movie turnaround times are also slow sometimes #bitLazy

Big fan of Ti West – really enjoyed both The Innkeepers and The House of the Devil – but I’m looking forward to seeing something different from him! Brilliant to hear The Sacrament is just that.
On the late posting thing: I still have drafts sitting from January yet to be completed! (They’ll probably be waiting a while).

I’ve had this one on my list of must sees, and now that you’ve given it a metaphorical “two thumbs up”, I’ll absolutely be giving it a go. I’m so glad you finally watched something that wasn’t a steaming pile of crap!

My gentlest JB,
There’s nothing much more that I hate than when someone puts 10:35 on the screen and they show an office and the clock reads 3:16. That’s a total joke. Even I can do better than that and I’m a chop.
My love,
Chop

I’m on the lookout for this one. And agreed the attention to detail to have the time stamp and the clock match . . . that’s commendable.

I’m not going anywhere long term – just been busy trying to find gainful employment after five years at home with my kids.
And also watching baseball and so not really watching movies. Today I’m incredibly sick, which means I’m neither job hunting nor tending to children. And somewhow catching up on everyone’s blogs seemed a fitting task. 🙂

I hate that you’re sick… but I’m glad we’re getting to interact 🙂
Go Brewers! I actually gave up on baseball (again) a few years ago but it’s nice to see them winning. My friend texted me earlier when they were 4-2 and I predicted that would be the only four games they would win this year.

That prediction is a bit . . . off.
We’ll see if they can keep the good play going. They’re still pitching well (though the bullpen has come down to Earth) but they are no longer hitting. Much at all. Which is wasting good starting pitching performances and also burning out the pen.

I know – same old shit with these guys every year.

With a couple recent exceptions, it certainly has been. Hopefully this year is another of the exceptions.
