Also – do you remember the time I went on about A PUBLIC RANSOM and the Director came on the message boards and we all had a good time? Well – he’s entered “Ransom” in a contest and he could use your support by visiting and / or sharing this link on whatever platforms you’re involved in. He stands to win 100 Grand if he can make it to the top! Please share!

I don’t know who she is but she showed up when I googled American Beauty so I couldn’t leave her out.

      You know – I think that’s it – I can’t stand whiny people….

Aren’t you short too?? Here’s this chair – stand on it –

  1. I was obsessed with this movie when I was like, 12. I thought the script was pure poetry (feel free to roll your eyes). Can’t say when I watched it last but I’m sure my feelings about have changed. I’ll stand by the musical score, though!

      Well Hi there!!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!!

The other week was the first time I’d ever seen it and I couldn’t believe how so many people liked this thing – but I’m weird when it comes to popular movies… O_o

      Thanks again!!

P.S. You’re the second person here to mention the score – I rarely pay attention to that – sometimes it’s hard enough for me to pay attention to the movie… HA!

I agree with you on this one. I think it is super pretentious and trying too hard to be deep and symbolic. Just tell a good story and the symbolism can be subtlety used. I mean the plastic bag…Ugh. It’s strange because it seems to be on people’s mind for some reason lately. Maybe because another extremely overrated film just won best picture? I don’t know.

And I don’t think it has aged well at all. It screams 90s consumerism and how stupifying the suburbs are…zzzzzzz. Now such voices are replaced by hipsters who judge middle America by oddly consuming a lot of expensive hipster items. Maybe that’s why it has appeal? It’s like the chance for hipsters to say ‘see there were always people like us’. I think outside of hardcore film people it would be one of the least popular Oscar winners in last 30 years. Oh well.
