As I always struggle with time (as well as typing) I have particularly been lax on this piece because I couldn’t find a suitable poster for my main-page-theme. I don’t love the one above but I went with it anyway because the one I like, below, is more oblong than letter and I kept waiting and waiting for something new to come out but nothing ever did so, in the interest of generating something about something I actually liked, let’s press on.
A guy and his new lady are going to a party. The party is being thrown by his ex-wife and her new man at the house they lived in when their son was killed. He hasn’t really gotten over the death yet and he’s mopey and shaggy but they are going anyway because they’re classy. Like me. #tits what?? There, they are greeted with fondness by a collection of friends and while the guy is standing there, he looks to his right and a chick is standing there with a tee-shirt on and not pants or underwear. Say what?? #taco
I liked this movie quite a bit – I even loved some of it – but we have to address that this is VERY slow. Like – if I wasn’t trapped on a plane with nothing else to do, I would probably have started fiddling with my iPad or something else. But it really does pick up about 2/3rds into it so, if you can wait that long without playing Angry Birds 2 or Toy Defense Fantasy you’ll be in good shape. I don’t really want to get into the plot too much and offer up some spoilers.
I was actually really impressed by the guy from Devil – he did a good job being all sullen and stare-y. Another thing – I watched this twice (because it was the better option than the shit horror I had) (Knock Knock) and the second time, I watched it from the point of view of what must be going on outside of the house and I kind of liked it a little better that way. The only thing I kind of didn’t like was the bald guy from The Drew Carey show. I like him and think he’s a good actor but I didn’t think he fit in with this group of 30 somethings and when he told his story, I could only think of him and Mimi wearing matching Mumus so it didn’t resonate. If that reference is lost on you, I do apologize.
I also liked the girl who played Sadie – I swear I’d seen her before but I guess I haven’t. I’ve seen some folks compare this to the beautiful Coherence but, I think, aside from being set mainly in one setting for most of the movie, that might be about it. I think this is a solid movie to give a shot at but Coherence is far better in my opinion.
Also – I wasn’t disappointed in the end – well – let’s white this out: I wish they wouldn’t have made it so noisy. It would have been PERFECT without all of the sirens and dogs barking and shit like that. Like – if the two of them were just staring at all of those lights in silence, that would have been much better for me.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
