THE OA (TV) INTERPRETIVE DANCE SAVES THE DAY

theoa1*SPOILERS AHEAD*

I don’t have time to do much writing any more but I had some spare time this holiday season and thought I would put together some thoughts on this thing. Did I love it? Not really. Mad Dogs and Bosch and Marcella and River and Black Mirror and Glitch and Goliath are a ton better. Better than those are Westworld and reruns of Deadwood, True Detective, The Leftovers and Ray Donovan. But, here we are again so let’s see what we have here.

Does anyone remember the wonderful SOUND OF MY VOICE from a few years back? Wow – I posted that in Feb 2013… is it really almost 2017?? Anyway, if anyone remembers that post or even that movie, Brit Marling is back again with basically, an eight hour version of SOMV except this time it’s interpretive dance (or movements) with hissing and growling instead of that special handshake. More on that later.

theoa2Soooooooooo Marling plays this blind chick who goes missing for 7 years and then suddenly comes back and tries to kill herself but now she can see and she sees her parents for the first time ever and then she spends six hours (episodes) talking to high schoolers about her kidnapping and imprisonment and Phyllis from the office is in there too and they learn how to dance and somehow this dancing can raise people from the dead and that dancing shit was actually laughable and kind of embarrassing, especially in the final episode. Oh – and Marling furrows her brow and looks sad/confused more often than I pee and I pee a lot because I drink a lot of beer and I’m old.

theoa3Don’t get me wrong, the story is good and well developed and Marling does a good job but GOD DAMN some of the actors were TERRIBLE and I don’t know how they got cast and the flashbackery wasn’t confusing but kind of irritating. I also get that there are plenty of underlying themes to this that aren’t fleshed out so they can do a second season but, in doing so, there are a ton of plot holes. Did she make it all up? What was Nas doing in the house? Why did she constantly refer to herself as the OA? But… let’s address the most important part here.

theoa5what the fuck is this fucking shit?

theoa7I get that they went ballsy and did a school shooting scene but HAHAHAHAHA “There’s someone shooting up the school so let’s stop it by doing this dance!!” I really did LOL at this scene and it ruined everything for me. That GIF doesn’t have sound but imagine them doing some hissing and growling while performing their ‘movements’. It was the stupidest thing I’ve seen since this:

ssquad1Would I watch a second season? Probably, but i wouldn’t wait in line for it.

Oh well – I guess I’m out! Be safe!

Master of Ipedom, I wish you a belated Cherry Mistmas and a future Nappy Hew Near!!! This show doesn’t sound so good so I’ll probably avoid it because I am so bad at committing to programs (to give everyone an idea I am still yet to watch Stranger Things past episode 4), so thank you for this my little boobpanda.

We just finished it tonight – you’re right Goliath way better – some good stuff but ultimately a letdown- but – yep – season 2 – sure I will watch… Happy NewYear!

Isaacs, you need to make a top-10 list for 2016 when you have a few minutes of spare time; could be a fun project to pass the time on your next flight. 🙂

You could compile the list on your iPad and save it and then add visuals when you get to your computer; or you could skip visuals altogether. It doesn’t have to be anything substantial. I just like to see people’s lists. 🙂

      Who is this????

I like Marling too but after five hours of her I got tired… then there was three more hours to go… I wouldn’t waste your free time here…

  4. I hope you had a wonderful holiday Eric! I have mixed feelings about this. I agree about some of the acting, and those “angel movements”/dancing just made me cringe. But I liked the story and I’m curious about how things will turn out so if it has a second season on Netflix I’ll probably check it out. I enjoyed Stranger Things much more though, and I’m currently addicted to Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events. I hope everything is going okay with you!
